RNA interference of mekk-3 (drl-1, dietary-restriction like) increases mean (by ~60%) and maximum (by ~40%) lifespan of N2 wild-type worms, and induces a DR-like state (lower fat reserves in intestinal cells and hypodermis, lower triglyceride levels, low brood size, longer reproductive span, increased autophagosome formation in the seam cells and smaller body size). Contrastly to the lifespan extension in N2 worms, inhibition of mekk-3 in the eat-2 worms, a robust model of calorie restriction, does not extend lifespan.
