The tau index of human gene tissue specificity is now available. Using gene expression data, we calculated the tau index for human each gene and transcript, providing a measure of how specifically expressed each gene is in human tissues. Full dataset and details are available.

Build 2 of CellAge is now available online. In addition to the 279 genes associated with cell senescence based on genetic manipulation experiments, this new build a gene expression signature of cellular senescence consisting of 1,259 genes, as detailed in the release notes.

We have released build 3 of DrugAge. This build represents a major improvement as we fixed several small errors in the data and added hundreds of new entries. We also updated the interface. The build 3 of DrugAge features 1,821 entries from 567 drugs, as detailed in the release notes.

Build 14 of AnAge has been released. This build is primarily a qualitative improvement. Only a few new species were added, but dozens of entries were updated and ~150 references were added. For more details, please consult the release notes.

We have released a new database of genes associated with cell senescence, which we have called CellAge. Featuring 144 entries, CellAge is still in the beta phase of development and therefore undergoing testing and still being improved and expanded.

We have released build 2 of DrugAge. This build represents a significant improvement as we fixed several small errors in the data and added dozens of new entries. The build 2 of DrugAge features 1,316 entries from 418 drugs, as detailed in the release notes.

DrugAge, a new database of ageing-related drugs, has been released. Over 1,000 entries of drugs, compounds and supplements that extend longevity in model organisms are featured. As such, DrugAge is the most comprehensive compilation of anti-ageing drugs and compounds available online.

We have released build 2 of the LongevityMap. This build is a significant update with dozens of new studies and hundreds of new variants included. The new LongevityMap build features 551 manually-curated entries, 860 genes and 3,025 genetic variants, as detailed in the release notes.

We have released the Bowhead Whale Genome Resource, a web portal that aims to assist researchers interested in the genome and genes of the bowhead whale (Balaena mysticetus), the longest-lived mammal. This portal includes a high-coverage genome assembly and features mappings of bowhead genes to orthologs in other species, molecular evolution rates (i.e., Ka/Ks), alignments, etc.

We have released the Naked Mole-Rat Genome Resource, a web portal that aims to assist researchers interested in the genome and genes of the long-lived, cancer-resistant naked mole rat (Heterocephalus glaber). This portal includes a high-quality genome assembly and features mappings of naked mole rat genes to orthologs in other species, molecular evolution rates (i.e., Ka/Ks), alignments, etc.

We have released a new database called LibAge, the bibliographical library of ageing. References from our gene-centric databases (i.e., GenAge, GenDR and LongevityMap) now link to LibAge which thus provides a centralized repository for HAGR's bibliography. Please note, however, that LibAge is still considered a beta version, undergoing testing and with several plans for improvements.

The new GenDR build features 149 genes inferred from genetic manipulation experiments, as described in the release notes.

The LongevityMap, a database of human genetic variants associated with longevity, has been released. Over 2,000 genes and variants previously studied in context of longevity are featured. As such, the LongevityMap serves as a repository of genetic association studies of longevity and reflects our current knowledge of the genetics of human longevity.

A new description of HAGR detailing its latest updates and novel features has been published in Nucleic Acids Research (41(D1):D1027–D1033). This more recent description of HAGR becomes the official citation of HAGR.

GenAge build 16 and AnAge build 12 were released. Both these builds are major updates in both quantity and quality of data. The new GenAge build features 288 manually-curated human genes and 1,712 genes in model organisms, as detailed in the release notes. The new AnAge build features 4,230 entries and hundreds of updated longevity records and entries, as described in the release notes.

The first database of genes associated with dietary restriction (DR), entitled GenDR, has been released to facilitate research on the genetic and molecular mechanisms of DR-induced life-extension. GenDR includes two datasets, each with ~150 genes: 1) genes inferred from experiments in model organisms in which genetic manipulations cancel out or disrupt the life-extending effects of DR; 2) genes robustly altered due to DR, derived from a meta-analysis of microarray DR studies in mammals.

An improved interface for HAGR was unveiled. The new version will aid in the navigation and browsing of our different resources. URLs and tools remain largely the same so, while the interface should be more intuitive, the functionality of our resources has not changed.

The molecular signatures of ageing identified by our group in 2009 through a meta-analysis of ageing microarray experiments in mammals have been incorporated into a searchable database. In addition, numerous changes have been made to HAGR's main page and user interface, updating and enhancing several aspects to improve functionality.

By combining ageing gene expression profiles from different tissues in mice, rats and humans, conserved molecular signatures of ageing were derived. These signatures reveal genes and processes consistently over- or underexpressed with age including previously unknown transcriptional changes with age. Further details as well as the full results are available online.

Through demographic parameters, namely the slope of the mortality curve, it is possible to estimate the rate of ageing of a given population, which can be useful to compare the rate of ageing between species or between animal cohorts used in experiments. A method to obtain such estimates of the ageing rate, as well as an SPSS script to aid in the calculations, is now described in the software section.

An extensive list of genes analyzed for their possible association with human longevity has been included in GenAge. While genes associated with human longevity have been featured before in GenAge, this latest dataset with over 200 genes tested for their possible association with human longevity and/or survival in old age represents a major update.

In addition to GenAge's putative human ageing-related genes, GenAge now features genes related to longevity and/or ageing in model organisms. In build 13 released today, 411 genes from model organisms are included. This expansion of GenAge was done in collaboration with Vadim Fraifeld who is now a curator for GenAge.
