Males attain full size at 5-9 years of age and females at 4-6 years of age [0434]. In the wild, it is estimated that these animals live up to 25 years [0542], which is doubtful. Senescence has been observed in the wild in animals of the mesopotamica subspecies [1143]. Record longevity in captivity is 27 years [1306].
