In Scotland, these animals mature at about 3 years of age and live about 6 years while in Newfoundland they mature at about age 15 and live around 20 years [0795]. Old animals appear to remain fertile [0524]. They have been estimated to live up to 90 years in the wild [0001], which is not impossible though unverified. Other estimates suggest these animals may live up to 50 years [0454].
