While they may reach sexual maturity earlier, males do not mate until they are at least one year-old. These animals feature diapause [0455]. One captive specimen was about 17 years old when it died in captivity [0671]. These animals have been reported to live up to 10.4 years in the wild [0424], though this could be due to confusion with Macrotus waterhousii.
