These animals show a gradual ageing process and live on average one year in captivity. One male lived 2.3 years. Animals that mature later tend to live longer [0661]. An increasing mortality with age and numerous age-related changes have been described in these animals [0654]. Late onset temperature reduction causes these fish to live approximately 5 weeks longer and reduces markers of ageing by synergistic action of an anti-oxidant system and the insulin/insulin-like growth factor 1 signalling pathway [1196].
