- Observations
One specimen of the Mali (maliensis) subspecies kept as a pet was still alive when over 17 years of age (website feedback), which considering the longevity of similar species is a plausible anecdote. The specimen was possibly a male and as he grew older he slept more, had diminished appetite and his color change when sunning did not occur as dramatically; but he seemed in good health overall.
