- Observations
Cartilaginous fishes tend to grow at a slow rate and live long [0523]. Like in other fishes, however, age estimation is often based on indirect methods and most longevity data comes from animals in the wild [0022]. As such, longevity records should be treated as approximate, not accurate, values. Likewise, adult body weight is often inferred from maximum weight and hence it also should be used as an approximate value.
