- Observations
Parrots and cockatoos, also called psittacines, tend to be long-lived, in particular for their small body size. Numerous anecdotal reports suggest that these animals may live several decades in captivity, often as pets, and perhaps may live over a century. One study reported numerous longevity records in captivity [0979], but these were not confirmed and thus have not been incorporated as the established maximum longevity of species.
