GenAge entry for HSPA1B (Homo sapiens)
Gene name (HAGRID: 161)
- HGNC symbol
- HSPA1B
- Aliases
- HSP70-2
- Common name
- heat shock 70kDa protein 1B
Potential relevance to the human ageing process
- Main reason for selection
- Entry selected based on evidence linking the gene product to a pathway or mechanism linked to ageing
- Description
HSPA1B is involved in stress response and recognition of abnormal proteins, but also in signalling cascades. Results from invertebrates have suggested that heat-shock proteins, such as hsp70, a homologue of HSPA1B, are involved in ageing [210]. Whether HSPA1B is involved in human ageing is unknown.
