GenAge Human Genes

This section of GenAge features genes possibly related to human ageing. Briefly, genes were selected for inclusion based on findings in model organisms put in context of human biology plus the few genes directly related to ageing in humans. As such, genes should be seen as candidate human ageing-associated genes. All entries are the result of an extensive review of the literature and feature considerable manually-curated annotation; the reason why each gene is featured in GenAge is given in each entry, in addition to other bibliographical references. Detailed information concerning the creation and selection of human genes can be found in our help page and relevant academic publication.

Finding Entries

Searching is simple and intuitive. Just type your search query to look for a gene. You can enter one or more words from the gene's name or use the gene's HGNC symbol. Note that the search is case insensitive.

Other Tools and Datasets

A database of genes commonly altered during ageing, derived from a meta-analysis of ageing microarray studies, is also available for search. Of potential interest to researchers is also a manually curated list of genes analyzed for their possible association with human longevity.

You can also view GenAge's statistics. A network analysis of GenAge, and the first protein network analysis of human ageing was previously published. GenAge also allowed us to develop a system-level interpretation of ageing which revealed that alterations to DNA are more relevant to ageing than other forms of molecular damage.

You may download a zipped tab-delimited ASCII dataset with all genes, derived from the latest stable build of GenAge. For practical reasons sequences were excluded, though all other data is included.
