Somatostatin is an important regulator of endocrine and nervous system function [386]. It inhibits the release of GH1 probably through GHRH [1568]. Because its levels change with age, it is likely that age-related changes are affected or affect SST [385], and a role for SST in Alzheimer's disease has also been proposed [1664].
