Potential relevance to the human ageing process
- Main reason for selection
- Entry selected based on evidence directly linking the gene product to ageing in a non-mammalian animal model
- Description
A member of the mitochondrial electron transport chain, SDHC homologues have been implicated in ageing of lower life forms. In roundworms, mutations in a SDHC homologue have been reported to cause oxidative stress and premature ageing [799]. Mutations in the human SDHC gene have been associated with mitochondrial respiratory chain deficiency [798], but not with premature ageing. Whether SDHC influences human ageing has not been determined.
