Potential relevance to the human ageing process
- Main reason for selection
- Entry selected based on evidence directly linking the gene product to ageing in a mammalian model organism
- Description
HELLS is a transcriptional regulator acting on chromatin and maybe affecting cellular proliferation. It has been linked to leukaemia [1047]. About 60% of HELLS-null mice die shortly after birth. Survivors do not commonly live more than a month but exhibit growth retardation and signs of premature ageing [1045]. Whether HELLS impacts on human ageing is unknown.
