GenAge entry for GSK3A (Homo sapiens)
Entry selected based on evidence directly linking the gene product to ageing in a mammalian model organism
Gene name (HAGRID: 295)
- HGNC symbol
- GSK3A
- Aliases
- Common name
- glycogen synthase kinase 3 alpha
Potential relevance to the human ageing process
- Main reason for selection
- Entry selected based on evidence directly linking the gene product to ageing in a mammalian model organism
- Description
GSK3A is involved in the control of several other proteins, including JUN, and signaling pathways like WNT and PI3K. It has been associated with Alzheimer disease [3426]. In mice, knockout of GSK3A results in a phenotype resembling accelerated ageing, including premature death, cardiac abnormalities and sarcopenia [3256].
