GenAge entry for HOXB7 (Homo sapiens)
Gene name (HAGRID: 213)
- HGNC symbol
- HOXB7
- Aliases
- HOX2; HOX2C
- Common name
- homeobox B7
Potential relevance to the human ageing process
- Main reason for selection
- Entry selected based on indirect or inconclusive evidence linking the gene product to ageing in humans or in one or more model systems
- Description
HOXB7 is a member of the homeobox family, also called HOX, crucial in morphogenesis and development [1024]. The expression of many HOX genes, including HOXB7, declines with age, even prior to adulthood [1020]. An association of HOX genes with longevity has been proposed [1022], though there is no direct evidence linking HOXB7 to human ageing.
