GenAge entry for A2M (Homo sapiens)
Gene name (HAGRID: 139)
- HGNC symbol
- A2M
- Aliases
- FWP007; S863-7; CPAMD5
- Common name
- alpha-2-macroglobulin
Potential relevance to the human ageing process
- Main reason for selection
- Entry selected based on indirect or inconclusive evidence linking the gene product to ageing in humans or in one or more model systems
- Description
A2M inhibits proteinases. Knockout mice are more resistant to endotoxins [702], though they have not been shown to live longer. In humans, A2M has been associated with neurodegenerative diseases [703], but a direct association with human ageing has not been established.
