GenAge entry for HSPA8 (Homo sapiens)
Gene name (HAGRID: 199)
- HGNC symbol
- HSPA8
- Aliases
- HSC71; HSC70; HSP73; HSPA10
- Common name
- heat shock 70kDa protein 8
Potential relevance to the human ageing process
- Main reason for selection
- Entry selected based on evidence linking the gene product to a pathway or mechanism linked to ageing
- Description
Also called hsc70 and hsp73, HSPA8 is a constitutively expressed chaperone. Age-related changes in stress response have been reported in rats, though HSPA8 levels do not appear to change with age [915]. Whether HSPA8 plays any role in human ageing remains to be determined.
