UBE2I catalyzes the attachment of SUMO1 to other proteins. Although no direct evidence exists to suggest a role for UBE2I in ageing, it is related to, among others, WRN [903] and PCNA [490], suggesting it might play a role in DNA repair and perhaps even in ageing. UBE2I deficiency in mice results in embryonic lethality [1678].
